NEW RELEASE: Fantasy Trilogy About A World Of Darkness Concludes With New Book Release

The dramatic story of a world where the Sun is kept in a box and only opened once per year comes to an end with the release of Crowbait, out now from Brain Lag.

In David Rae’s Sun Thief trilogy, the twelve priests of the evil spirit Vatu rule over and administer the dark lands. The priests are fractured and reeling from the startling and painful events of the second book, Crowtower, and struggle to break free of Vatu’s rule, or maintain order in a world of secret heretics who worship the Whisperer, the Author of All Things.

The writing of Crowbait takes a stark turn, as the Author of All Things becomes the narrator with character scenes written in second person POV. This unconventional choice draws the reader in, placing them firmly in the shoes of heroes and villains, nobles and bandits in the largest cast yet in the trilogy. Themes of guilt and regret, redemption, responsibility, and hope are brought starkly to life in a series hailed as a “masterpiece of epic fantasy” (Reedsy 5-star review).

The book is now available to order in trade paperback (304 pages, ISBN 978-1-928011-92-7) through bookstores everywhere including Chapters/Indigo, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, and Amazon, as well as through major ebook retailers like Kindle, Kobo, iBooks, and Google Play. As part of the book’s release, a virtual launch party will be held on Twitch on Friday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Featuring an interview with the author, readings, and a Q&A with the chat, the launch party is free to attend and open to the public with no registration required.

Rae is an award-winning writer of short stories, flash fiction and poetry. His work has appeared in numerous magazines, anthologies and online. He lives in Scotland and grew up in a world where workers spill out of factories, a world where fog and smoke shroud all kinds of creatures, a world where ruined castles, factories and houses are haunted by ghosts, gangs and memories. He lives in a world where witches have been burned at the cross and martyrs have been hung on the Gallowgreen. He is married and has four lovely children and now lovely grandchildren. And he continues to read and to write and marvel at the world he lives in.

Crowbait is Brain Lag’s 43rd title and third release of eleven planned for 2023. The Sun Thief is the publisher’s second complete trilogy, following up Dale E. McClenning’s Awakening Earth science fiction trilogy completed in 2022, with Catherine Fitzsimmons’ Sisters of Chaos epic fantasy trilogy concluding in June 2023 and several other series still ongoing.
