Two years after Simon A. G. Spencer’s epic Birthright series began with Shadows of Slavery, the story continues with today’s release of Blood of Gods.
Booklist has praised the space opera/science fantasy series, calling the first book an “inventive story” that “keeps readers on edge while building a whole galaxy around the characters” and says of this continuation, “There’s never a dull moment and readers will eagerly await the next book.” Publishers Weekly adds, “Spencer’s jam-packed sequel to 2022’s Shadows of Slavery successfully juggles multiple plotlines. Space opera fans with a taste for intergalactic warfare would do well to check this out.”
A launch party is being held Saturday, February 10 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Offworld Bar, 739 Queen St. W, 2nd floor. As part of Toronto Lit Up, an initiative of the Toronto International Festival of Authors and Toronto Arts Council to promote and celebrate local authors, the event is free to attend, with refreshments provided and drink tickets available.

Author David Nickle (Rasputin’s Bastards, Knife Fight and Other Stories) will be moderating the event and live entertainment will be provided by nerd rock musician Kraken Not Stirred. Spencer will be on hand to sign books and answer questions. Copies will be available for purchase by Bakka-Phoenix Books.
Blood of Gods is now available to purchase everywhere in trade paperback (392 pages, ISBN 978-1-998795-15-4, $25.99 CAD) and ebook (ISBN 978-1-998795-16-1, $7.99) formats, including Chapters/Indigo, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Bookshop.org, and more.
Spencer is a prolific reader, obsessive gamer, and kaiju enthusiast who specializes in genre-melding science fiction and fantasy. Blood of Gods is his third book, following up Shadows of Slavery and the standalone retro-urban fantasy Soul, Light, & Wings.
Blood of Gods is Milton, Ontario SFF publisher Brain Lag’s 49th release and the second of 2024. Two more titles are releasing in March, with one, Mecha-Jesus and Other Stories by Derwin Mak, also having a launch party sponsored by Toronto Lit Up.
