NEW BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT: Sabotage, Espionage, And Politics Feature In Upcoming Fourth Book Of Space Opera Series

The exciting story of secret plots, escape from slavery, and alien interference in Stephen B. Pearl’s Freedom Saga continues this December with the release of Arming Freedom.

In this richly detailed science fiction series, cloned actors in engineered settings provide VR entertainment across the galaxy, unbeknownst to the actors themselves. The previous books saw an Earth military veteran spirit away a character scheduled to be killed off and struggle to avoid recapture, all while the other ‘actors’ learn the truth of their existence and discreetly plan to rise up against their controllers.

Now, Arming Freedom finds Captain Ryan Chandler navigating the hotly contested Murack system, where two alien races continue to vie for control of the planets years after the war cost Ryan his original body. Delivering relief supplies to devastated world Murack Five will mean confronting increasingly devious traps. The series has been praised by outlets such as Booklist, which called it “rich, original, and immersive” and Publishers Weekly, which added, “Pearl plays a confident game with his multiple worlds-within-worlds.”

Arming Freedom will release December 3, 2024 in trade paperback and ebook formats, along with a dyslexia-formatted edition which features greater character and line spacing, non-justified text, and bold text instead of italics. The cover art will be revealed shortly.

Hamilton-based Pearl is the author of over a dozen books ranging from Norse fantasy set during Ragnarok to post-apocalyptic Ontario and more. His works have been commended for their attention to detail and technical and historical accuracy, drawing on his wide experience including EMS assistance and SCUBA diving, and his extensive research into environmentally friendly technology. Pearl can often be found at Hamilton, Ontario arts events.

Arming Freedom will be Milton, Ontario SFF publisher Brain Lag’s seventh release of 2024 and fifty-fourth published title. It follows up Brain Lag’s earlier releases of his, Tinker’s Plague and Tinker’s Sea, and the previous books in the Freedom saga, Cloning Freedom, Freedom’s Law, and Freedom’s Myth.
