MILTON, ONTARIO, September 23, 2022 – Today, the cover art was revealed for upcoming literary fantasy novel The Nightingale’s Tooth by Hugo and Nebula Award-nominated author Sally McBride. The artwork features a painting of a nighttime scene at a river with mountains in the distance, bright stars in the sky, and bold orange and navy blue lighting.
Set in medieval France, The Nightingale’s Tooth takes the reader on a journey into a world based in, but not quite our own. A young woman, who is destined to die and be born again in thrall to her killer, has to navigate a dangerous world of Great Gods and a power-hungry lord, all of which are after the shapeshifting abilities she will gain after death. Here, McBride says, “our familiar and forgiving religions are only might-have-beens” and worship is won by only the most ruthless gods. McBride paints a haunting and detailed picture of this world, saying, “Putting subtle twists on history meant hours of fascinating and rather daunting research – which I promptly slid every which way into the story.”The book is now available for preorder in trade paperback (ISBN 978-1-928011-88-0, 310 pages, $22.99 CAD) through the publisher and is making its way into the catalogues of bookstores across the world, including Chapters/Indigo, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Waterstones. Ebook (ISBN 978-1-928011-89-7, $4.99 CAD/USD) preorders are also available ahead of the book’s January 13, 2023 release.

McBride, who splits her time between Toronto and Idaho, has had two novels previously published, along with dozens of short stories in magazines, anthologies, and best-of collections including Asimov’s, Amazing, and Fantasy & Science Fiction.
The Nightingale’s Tooth is science fiction and fantasy publisher Brain Lag’s forty-second book to be released and will be its first release in 2023. More books have already been signed with McBride to come later in 2023 and 2024.
