The face of Brain Lag owner Catherine Fitzsimmons’s latest novel has now been shown with the cover reveal of Elderra’s Champion.
The cover artwork portrays the star of the series, Damian Sires, standing before a lake and holding a sword, her hair and gown blowing in the wind. As with the previous two books in the Sisters of Chaos trilogy, the figure is a digital painting by Fitzsimmons, with the background derived from a photograph she took.
Preorders are now open directly through the publisher and are making their way into bookstore catalogues everywhere. The book will be released June 9, 2023 in trade paperback (302 pages, ISBN 978-1-928011-98-9, $23.99 CAD) and ebook (ISBN 978-1-928011-99-6, $4.99) formats.
This book concludes a series over twenty years in the making and meets the author’s goal for halving the development time for each successive book. While Fitzsimmons does not credit the COVID-19 pandemic with directly influencing the production of Elderra’s Champion, she does admit that lockdowns helped give her time to refine the book quicker than the previous installments.
Fitzsimmons, who lives in Milton, Ontario with her husband, child, and two crazy tabbies, has released three other books, along with a short story in Brain Lag’s 2020 anthology The Light Between Stars. She started science fiction and fantasy publisher Brain Lag in 2010 with her own first novel and now is proud to publish works by over twenty authors from across Canada, the rest of North America, and even across the pond. The company has more than doubled its lineup since the release of her previous book in 2020, with a new book releasing every month.
Elderra’s Champion is Brain Lag’s 46th title and third series conclusion. This is the publisher’s sixth release of eleven planned for 2023.
